Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB)
The CRSB provides $500 per week for a maximum of 2 weeks (available in one-week periods). Applications are made through the CRA and open on October 5, 2020.
Eligibility for the CRSB
Individuals are eligible for the CRSB if they:
are not eligible for EI;
are not receiving income from the CRB or CRCB during the particular week;
are not in receipt of paid leave during the period claimed;
currently reside in Canada;
are at least 15 years old and have a valid SIN;
had employment and/or self-employment income of at least $5,000 in 2019 or 2020; and
Are unable to work for at least 50% of the time that they would have otherwise worked for one of the following reasons:
they have or might have contracted COVID-19; or
they have been directed to isolate themselves for reasons related to COVID-19.
CRSB Details
the CRSB program will be in place for one year from September 27, 2020 to September 25, 2021.
applications are made through the CRA for one-week periods.
applications must be made within 60 days after the end of the particular week.
a medical certificate is not required to qualify.
the CRSB will provide individuals $500 weekly, for a maximum of 2 weeks.
income tax of 10% will be withheld from CRSB payments.
