Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB)
The CRB provides $500 per week for a maximum of 26 weeks. Applications are made through the CRA and open on October 12, 2020.
Eligibility for the CRB
Individuals are eligible for the CRB if they:
are not eligible for EI;
are not receiving income from the CRCB or CRSB during the particular 2-week period;
currently reside in Canada;
have not quit their job voluntarily;
are at least 15 years old and have a valid SIN;
had employment and/or self-employment income of at least $5,000 in 2019 or 2020;
have stopped working due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or have seen their income drop by at least 50% for the 2-week period for which they are applying; and
are available and looking for work.
CRB Details
the CRB program will be in place for one year from September 27, 2020 to September 25, 2021.
applications are made through the CRA for two-week periods.
applications must be made within 60 days after the end of the particular 2-week period.
the CRB will provide individuals $500 weekly, for a maximum of 26 weeks.
income tax of 10% will be withheld from CRB payments.
an individual who has an income exceeding $38,000 for 2020 or 2021 will be required to repay an amount equal to 50 cents per dollar of income earned in that year above $38,000 up to the total amount of the CRB received in the given year.
