CANADA EMERGENCY RESPONSE BENEFIT (CERB)
July 28, 2020
The CERB has been extended for 8 weeks (two additional 4 week periods) , thereby increasing the maximum amount that an individual can receive under the program to $12,000 from $8,000. The Government has announced that changes will be made to the CERB attestation to encourage Canadians receiving the benefit to find employment and consult Job Bank, Canada’s national employment service that offers to help with job searches. As well, the proposed changes would disqualify a worker from the CERB if they do not return to work when it is reasonable to do so or decline a reasonable job offer.
